Noah joins Hollywood royalty at glittering event
SOUTH African comic Trevor Noah joined Hollywood royalty on the red carpet at the Met Gala in New York on Monday night.
More than 500 Oscar-winning actresses and actors, fashion designers and Hollywood players attended the event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The evening is the biggest fashion fundraiser on the city’s social calendar.
And 31-year-old Noah was there, clad in a Ralph Lauren black and white suit which he was very modest about in his tweets.
“On my way to my first #MetGala. I would take a selfie but it wouldn’t do this @RalphLauren suit justice,” tweeted Noah.
This was one of a few big outings, since attending the Justin Bieber Roast last month, for Noah after being announced as the successor to Jon Stewart as host of The Daily Show.
The R300 000-a-ticket affair was hosted by Hong Kong fashion and textile billionaire Silas Chou, while Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence, Yahoo president Marissa Mayer, Chinese-born American businesswoman Wendi Murdoch and American Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour served as co-chairs.
But the talk was about the red carpet bigwigs, most of whom tried to stick to the theme of “China: Through the Looking Glass”.
Mothers Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian West all opted for racy numbers.
Beyonce wore a tight-fitting and completely sheer Givenchy gown with strategically placed colourful jewels, which she paired with tan sandals.
Lopez, 45, opted for a skin-tight Versace gown that had sheer cut-outs, while Kardashian West wore a Roberto Cavalli creation that consisted of a nude bodysuit covered in sparkling silver crystals and a long white feather train that hugged every inch of her famous derriere.
Singer Rihanna was the object of mockery on social media for wearing a yellow robe featuring heavy embroidery, a fur trim and the longest train of any of the guests.
