Barefoot businesses can assist needy kids

- Herald Reporter

THE Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber is once again appealing to all businesses around the Bay to go barefoot on International One Day Without Shoes later this month.

The day, to be held on May 21, is a global initiative of the TOMS shoe company designed to highlight the plight of children who have no shoes and are exposed to daily dangers and health risks.

“There are children right here in Nelson Mandela Bay who have no shoes and business is leading the charge and helping to get kids the basics many take for granted,” the chamber said.

There were 3 900 pairs of new shoes collected last year. Those wanting to get involved can: ý Commit to observing One Day Without Shoes in offices across the Bay by encouraging colleagues, employees, partners and suppliers to come on board;

ý Collect as many new kids’ and elderly people’s shoes as possible, in all styles and sizes;

ý Go barefoot on One Day Without Shoes. Have fun and take photos, but think about those for whom this is a way of life; and

ý Deliver the shoes your company has collected to the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber at 200 Norvic Drive in Greenacres.

All shoes will be donated via the Community Chest which will provide Section 18 A certificates to all donors.
