Family fun event aims for record 2 500 entrants

- Mogan Segadavan

ORGANISERS of next Saturday’s ninth annual 10km and 5km Sunridge Village Family Run/ Walk are hoping to break the 2 500-entry barrier to make it one of the biggest events in Eastern Province athletics.

“It can be done as this is, for the first time, an official EPA participation league event and one of the biggest events in the metro,” organising committee chairman Shane Brown said.

Last year, the event, organised by the Port Elizabeth Amateur Athletic Club in conjunction with Sunridge Village shopping centre, attracted more than 2 000 participants.

The event has always been a fun-filled family affair, with hampers, lucky draws and some ma- jor prizes, including a R2 500 shopping experience from Sunridge SuperSpar.

“Although it is an official EPA roadrunning event, it caters for the whole family, ” Sunridge Village centre manager Suzanne Fincham said.

“The school with the most bulk entries wins R1 000, so we encourage all schools to take part and support the event.”

In another new development, the event is registered for members to claim Vitality points.

There are several fun category prizes, including first family home, parent and pram, dad and dog, and mom and tot.

Only the first 1 000 pre-entries at SpecSavers, PostNet and Myburg’s Sports at Sunridge Village will receive a T-shirt.

Pre-entries can also be made at major sport shops in Port Elizabeth, Despatch SuperSpar and Myburg’s Sports in Uitenhage.

Bulk and pre-entries close at 5pm on Wednesday.

There will be cash prizes as well as lucky draws, with prizes valued at more than R10 000. Entry: R40 (10km), R30 (5km). There is additional parking in the park at Camellia Avenue, off Aster Avenue, near the centre.
