Focus shifts to who will be relegated

- Mogan Segadavan

WITH Young Ideas clear favourites to win the Safa-NMB SAB soccer league, the focus over the next four rounds will be on the relegation battle, with eight points separating the bottom five teams. Two teams will be relegated.

Tailenders Camper United play Motherwell Academy, who are eighth and safe from relegation, at Kemsley Park.

Peace United, who are three points ahead of Camper with a match in hand, face a tough clash against Callies at Walmer High. In the first round Callies thrashed Peace 6-1 and they should win again, although it is likely to be closer this time.

Ikamva Movers, who are tied with Despatch Pioneers, also face a tough match against Fairview Rovers, who have an outside chance of overtaking the log leaders. In the first round Rovers scored an easy 3-0 win, but they will battle to repeat that on Sunday. Movers beat Pioneers 2-1 last week after thrashing Central Acemates 7-1 in their previous match.

Pioneers are up against neighbours Island City, who are playing for pride. From their current position, City can neither win the title nor be relegated.

Ghetto Stars, who are dangerously close to the relegation zone, play the in-form Hotspurs at Moore Dyke.

Meanwhile, victory over Highland Spurs at the Jabavu Stadium will put Ideas just four points away from the title. They need seven points from four matches, including this weekend’s clash, to seal the deal.

They will not find Spurs a pushover as the KwaNobhule outfit are desperate to get out of the relegation zone. In the first round Ideas battled to a 3-2 win.

Lion City, who seem to have thrown in the towel in the title race, play Central Acemates at the NU2 Stadium and should cement second spot.

The fixtures are: Highland Spurs v Young Ideas (Jabavu), Hotspurs v Ghetto Stars (Moore Dyke), Ikamva Movers v Fairview Rovers (NU2 Stadium), Island City v Despatch Pioneers (Jubilee), Lion City v Central Acemates (NU2 Stadium), Motherwell Academy v Camper United (Kemsley Park), Peace United v Callies (Walmer High School), Royal Bucks v Showvillage United
