Only two Pefa games produce big scores

THERE was a lull after the storm in the Pefa Premier League over the weekend with just two matches producing big scores.

Callies, who scored 43 goals with just four against in their last five matches, this time thrashed NMB Municipali­ty 5-1 after leading 3-0 at the break.

Kurt Petersen, who scored a double hat-trick last week, scored four goals this time and Shane de Boer added the fifth.

Municipali­ty remain winless.

It was a vast improvemen­t for Motherwell Academy, who were thrashed 22-2 by Callies last time out, when they went down 5-1 to Central Acemates at VP Sports Club. Siwongile Nunu and Lwazi Sawula gave Acemates a 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the second half Sawula completed his hat-trick while Nunu added his second.

Defending champions NMMU Madibaz, who scored 20 goals without reply in two matches, almost met their match when they were held to a 1-1 draw by PE Defence at EP Command in Forest Hill. The home side led 1-0 at the break. The students came back strongly but poor finishing was their undoing. In the end Kerabo Mathlabi earned Madibaz a share of the points.

On Sunday, Forresters edged out KwaDwesi All Stars 2-1.

Kweila Ntombana opened the scoring for Forresters, who led 1-0 at half time. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Khanya Mavitana equalised. With the match heading for a draw, Ace Gadlela netted for Forresters.

On Friday evening, the match between Hearts and Warriors was called off due to load-shedding. The results were: NMB Municipali­ty 1 Callies 5, Highbury 0 Toshiba Old Grey 1, Motherwell Soccer Academy 1 Central Acemates 5, PE Defence 1 Madibaz 1, KwaDwesi All Stars 1 Forresters 2 LOAD-SHEDDING affected the Nodefa VW Community Trust Premier League programme on Friday.

The league winners will only be decided during the course of the week after two deciding matches were called off.

Log-leaders Jamaican Stars were due to play Manchester United while relegation-threatened Manchester Babes were to play Khayelitsh­a Stars. Jamaican Stars were held to a 1-1 draw by Khayelitsh­a on Sunday. Defending champions Imbabala Young Stars, who could also win the championsh­ip, drew 2-2 with New City Stars.

Babes eased relegation worries by beating Highland Spurs 3-0.
