‘Reimburse or reschedule’ promise on Makubalo events
THE management company behind f ormer Generations actor and Qina hit-maker Anga “Naakmusiq” Makubalo has promised to reimburse or reschedule shows with Nelson Mandela Bay event organisers.
This comes after Makubalo failed to turn up for three shows last month, costing Bay event organisers more than R50 000 in pre-payments.
Afrotainment is owned by Mthokozisi Khathi, who is popularly known as DJ Tira.
Afrotainment’s Ntokozo Khathi, who is responsible for booking artists, said they were in communication with the event organisers.
“We are looking for solutions. We are not sure whether we will reimburse or reschedule another performance,” she said.
Khathi was unable to say what caused Makubalo to miss the three events.
At the time, he said on social media he had missed his flight.
Thembinkosi Tembani, who booked Makubalo to perform in Uitenhage on April 29 for a jubilee, said the last time Khathi took his calls was on April 28.
“We are thinking of opening a criminal case against him. We paid him 50% upfront as well as his accommodation, flights and marketing.” Tembani, who is owed close to R27 000, said he did not want to reschedule.

Thembekile “Fresh” Mdlazilwana said he had paid Makubalo R20 000 in advance for a Platinum Club event on April 26 and spent R10 000 on flights, ac- commodation, sound hire and posters.
“I am still waiting for their call but nothing so far,” he said.
Makubalo was also booked to perform at the Bay’s Freedom Day celebrations.
In an e-mail on Monday, Makubalo said the event organisers had communicated with Afrotainment.
“These people [event organisers] don’t even liaise with me or pay me for that matter, they pay the label [Afrotainment] and then the label pays me. I am disappointed but those sort of unethical articles make me so sad that our [country’s] journalists try to destroy us.”
