Calyx hits ramp for charity with fashion show
THE annual Calyx Boutique charity fashion show will be held on June 8 at the Metropolitan Art Museum in Park Drive, Central.
“Our MC this year is going to be Pieter Swart from NMMU so that is sure to make it a winner!” said Calyx owner Maryna Nortier of the articulate communications specialist Swart, who has an eye for stylish trends.
“We will be showing the latest trends from trench coats, palazzo pants, roll-neck tops, faux fur gilets to mixing prints and colours. We will be showing an exciting new designer from SA Fashion Week, Ilan, for the first time.”
Look Good . . . Feel Better is a global non-profit organisation which supports women in active cancer treatment, helping them to restore their appearance which in turn can improve self-esteem during this very difficult time.
Patients in need of support are identified and invited to a Look Good . . . Feel Better workshop by the oncology staff. Members, such as companies from the cosmetic industry, donate appropriate products for the 12-step skincare and make-up regime.
Then trained volunteers guide the patients through the regime, focusing on cancer-related side-effects such as dry, very sensitive skin; hair-, eyebrow-, eye lash loss; pigmentation marks and the discolouration of nails.
They educate the patients on the importance of skin care, especially when undergoing treatment and the skin is delicate and infection is prevalent and dangerous.
Nortier said there would also be many prizes on the night. “Atlas Security will be in attendance to make sure all proceedings run smoothly and without incident.
The show will be held at 5 for 5.30pm and tickets at R150 each are available at Calyx Boutique and Bliss Hair & Beauty in Walmer.
