US storm delays Noah’s SA show

- Gabi Mbele

SOUTH Africa’s golden boy Trevor Noah is caught up in a storm – literally.

The comedian told his 2.3-million Twitter followers yesterday that he would miss the premiere of his Lost in Translation show – due to take place last night at Montecasino in Johannesburg – because he was stuck in Atlanta due to a storm.

“Due to a monster storm our pilot chose not to fly because we might die (chicken!) So unfortunately I have to move today’s show to Tuesday.

“If you can’t make the new show date in Joburg, you can collect a full refund from Computicket. Or you can collect full laughs on Tuesday,” Noah wrote.

Noah – who is to take over from John Stewart as the host of The Daily Show – is scheduled to host his own shows at the Teatro in Johannesburg for the next five weeks where he will play from Wednesday to Sunday every week.

The show has sold out all its Thursday to Sunday shows. Tickets are left only for Wednesday shows. Disappointed fans tweeted back: Lelo Boyana: “@TrevorNoah are you joking?“And Daniel Pietersen tweeted: “@Trevornoah Why not just move the storm to Tuesday and do the show today?” Noah responded: “I tried but mother nature is very hard to bribe.”

After his last show on June 28, he will head to the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, in Canada’s Quebec province.

From there Noah will head to the UK and perform at venues including the Edinburgh Festival in August. He will headline shows at the Eventim Apollo, Hexagon and Symphony Hall in October.
