Chelsea chase Falcao as Arsenal target Sterling
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE
Chelsea: The 2014-15 champions are looking to strengthen their frontline by making a swoop for Radamel Falcao, who has just come off from an unsuccessful loan move from Manchester United.
Chelsea are said to be in talks with the Colombian and his club AS Monaco for a oneseason loan deal. Reports yesterday suggest Raheem Sterling is also on Chelsea’s radar.
Liverpool: After a turbulent season, the Reds need to strengthen in all departments. Manager Brendan Rodgers has wrapped up a deal for Manchester City midfielder James Milner, who was a free agent after his contract expired.
The Reds have also completed a deal for recently demoted Burnley’s 22-year-old striker, Danny Ings, who was also a free agent. Rodgers made it a hat-trick of free transfers after securing the signing of Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bogdan.
The Reds are also after Inter’s Mateo Kovacic and had a recent £12-million (R232-million) bid turned down for Southampton right back Nathaniel Clyne.
Manchester United: The Red Devils are reported to be going on a spending spree under Louis van Gaal, having already secured the signature of Dutch winger Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven for £25-million (R483million). Tottenham forward Harry Kane and Brazilian Roberto Firmino are also on their radar.
As the departure of goalkeeper David de Gea seems imminent, Van Gaal is looking at Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris and Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen.
Manchester City: They hope to strengthen their title challenge, but the League runnersup have hit a bump in the road, having had a £20-million (R387-million) bid for midfielder Sterling rejected by Liverpool who value him at around £40-million (R774-million). Reports also suggest Manuel Pellegrini is after Juventus star Paul Pogba.
Arsenal: After a solid enough season, the Gunners wish to challenge for the title by making a swoop for Chelsea’s second-choice stopper, Petr Cech, who is eyeing a move away from Chelsea.
Arsene Wenger is also ready to battle City for the signature of Sterling.
Tottenham Hotspur: Things are quiet in the window thus far for Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs, but reports suggest they are after Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie and Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin. LA LIGA
Real Madrid: New Real Madrid boss Rafael Benitez is hoping to start off his campaign with a bang. The La Liga runners-up are said to be in talks with Manchester United keeper De Gea, who comes off an excellent season, as veteran keeper Iker Casillas is set to leave.
Barcelona: Fresh off a treble win, the La Liga, Champions League and Copa Del Rey winners have already secured the signature of Aleix Vidal from Sevilla on a five-year deal for ß18- million (R252-million) as Dani Alves’s future is in doubt.
Atletico Madrid: After a somewhat disappointing season, Diego Simeone may see the departure of defender Miranda and Arda Turan – both are on the radar of premier league clubs – but Atletico plan on offering the latter a lucrative deal. BUNDESLIGA
