Kind soul helps feed, clothe the poor
FOOD, clothes, toys and blankets are among donated items collected by a young woman who in turn gives them to needy citizens.
Samantha Frost, 25, of Bethelsdorp, has been helping citizens of Nelson Mandela Bay donate various household items to less fortunate families – thanks to the power of social media.
A single mother, Frost has been running the Facebook group, “Give Stuff To Those Who Need it in Port Elizabeth”, for the past two months and boasts a membership of more than 800.
She has been unemployed for the last five years now, due to a motor vehicle accident which rendered her unable to work.
Frost relies solely on public donations to make the lives of her beneficiaries easier. However, she has ambitions of expanding her project to reach out to more people involved in community work and also to keep more mouths fed and bodies warmly covered.
Frost says she would like to help as many people as she can, “especially now that the winter months . . . are here”.
“I do not have any financial support or income, but I love what I can do for others. Seeing the smile on the face of the person receiving the parcel is just priceless; it is something that cannot be explained,” Frost said.
Her father, Clive Frost, was the brains behind the group but handed over the administrative duties to his daughter.
“The idea came from the high levels of unemployment which leads to crime in the northern areas, so the Lord laid it on my heart and instructed me to do something about it,” Clive said.
Samantha Hoffman, who assisted in the handing out of some of the collected items, said she only met the Frosts through the Facebook group. However they had become very close.
“The work being done by both Samantha and her dad Clive is awesome because for them to reach out on that kind of level, it’s just wonderful,” she said.
