Oppose scrapping of holidays

-

THE Christians of South Africa need to stand united against the latest threat to practising our religion and keeping our holy days. The latest attack is a proposal to remove Christmas Day and Easter from the calendar as holy days.

We have already lost Ascension Day. What other sacrifice are we going to allow?

What are they going to do next, tell us we may not be practising Christians and force us underground as in the “old” days?

It is rumoured that Jacob Zuma is a Christian so the question is: is he going to rubber-stamp this change because if he does, then I doubt that he is a Christian.

I doubt that a Christian will allow this.

This will effectively do away with the birth of Christ, and his death and resurrection all in one fell swoop. On a religious level this is so, so wrong.

On an emotional level how do we now explain to our children that Christmas no longer exists in South Africa and on a financial level it will affect our economy drastically.

In reality I know that Christmas has become very commercial, but for a Christian these are important dates. Can we on all these levels afford to lose our holy days?

This is not about the public holiday, but what this represents. In the event we allow this then we will effectively be turning our back on God and his son, Jesus Christ.

We as a country cannot afford to do this, as it will have terrible repercussions for us. No one turns his or her back on God and gets away with it.

Remember if we allow this to happen without a fight then we are just as guilty as the people who decide to take these dates off the calendar.
