Callies just escape defeat to Warriors

- Mogan Segadavan

A PENALTY in stoppage time saved the day for Callies when they drew 1-1 with Warriors in a Pefa Score Energy Premier League fixture at the weekend.

After a goalless first half Warriors upset the form book to lead 1-0 when Clyde Hendricks converted a penalty.

With the log-leaders looking close to suffering defeat, Warriors conceded a penalty and Farouk Abrahams made no mistake from the spot to give Callies a share of the points.

Last week, Callies drew with NMMU Madibaz in a 10-goal thriller.

Madibaz picked up maximum points from their double-header.

They thrashed Central Acemates 4-1 on Friday after leading 1-0 at the break with a goal by Claudius Sagandira.

Acemates were on level terms straight after the changeover but the students regained the lead when Achuma Klaas netted.

Sagandira increased the lead before Simamkhele Thobi added the fourth.

On Sunday, Madibaz came back from 1-0 down at half time to beat Forresters 3-1 in a rescheduled fixture. Kweila Ntombana scored for Forresters and in the second half Thobi, Sagandira and Sachin Jackson scored for the students.

In a match in which both teams finished with 10 men, Hearts and Forresters drew 1-1 in Glendinningvale. Ntombana gave Forresters a 1-0 lead at the break and five minutes into the second half Travis la Mude equalised for Hearts with a well-taken free kick.

A header by Levert le Roux in the second half was enough to give Old Grey maximum points against PE Defence and a 1-0 win.

Highbury had no answers for NMB Municipality at the Westbourne Oval and lost 5-0.

Results: NMMU Madibaz 4 Central Acemates 1, Forresters 1 Hearts 1, Toshiba Old Grey 1 PE Defence 0, NMMB Municipality 5 Highbury 0, Callies 1 Warriors 1, NMMU Madibaz 3 Forresters 1
