I HAVEN’T been a fan of Danny Jordaan because I disagreed with the cost of the Soccer World Cup to us lesser mortals, as well as the debts incurred which are still with us, but I think we should at least give him a chance for the next six months to prove himself as mayor.

MIKE

TO the mayor, Danny Jordaan, I’m not into politics – I was born in 1975. When I read what you told Retief Odendaal I started crying. Even my kids asked why I was crying. Thanks Mr Jordaan.

BUTLER DANNY

Jordaan, always looking back into the past and the apartheid years does not help your cause. Who cares where you grew up? Look up into the future, man, and don’t be like the rest of the ANC, always looking over their shoulders. The future is in front, not behind you. Forget the black and white racist story or, better still, stick to soccer and join Fifa.

CAPRICORN DANNY

Jordaan is trying very hard to gain popularity. Wrong footing. Reliving the apartheid era will get you no sympathy because the ANC is too corrupt and everyone knows it.

READER BY the ANC’s angry response it appears that the truth hurts. DA leader in PE Retief Odendaal apparently hit the nail on the head when he accused the ANC in the Bay of alienating the northern area dwellers with a meagre budget because they are supporting the DA. One has to admit that he makes a very valid point when he points out that 12 wards in the northern areas not run by the ANC are allocated a total of R80-million and a single ward in the same side of town in the hands of the ANC is awarded R46-million. No one is saying that the old SA was just and fair to all its citizens, but what we are saying is that very little has changed under the new government. Roll on the DA.

NIGEL WAKEFORD

AS a kid (white) and like lots of others, we also grew up with the bucket system. No tar roads either, as mentioned. Not only the mayor grew up under these conditions.

DANNY SO

Danny Jordaan blames apartheid for lack of services in his areas. What has his ANC done about it in the last 20 years? I had high hopes for his leadership but it seems like it will be the same old backward, blame someone else game.

JB MAYBE Danny Jordan with his two overinflated salaries can afford to pay double digit above inflation rates increases, but I for one definitely can’t. It’s time we had a rates boycott.

AV C, UITENHAGE DANNY

Jordaan, how can you propose a cut of R123-million for maintenance and repairs. Just drive on the Settlers freeway for example and you will see that it needs resurfacing as chunks of tar are missing through wear and tear, and will become potholes if not fixed soon. Please open your eyes and catch a game.

DAVE, WALMER, PORT ELIZABETH DANNY

Jordaan, shame on you! What a pathetic response to play the race card when you have been exposed as a typical ANC puppet! Be fair and spread the budget fairly!

ALBIE KOEN

DANNY Jordaan, your statement in The Herald of June 19 that the white people only went to Bethelsdorp to shoot your people is only to try to win votes and incite racism. Shame on you.

J J, EAST CAPE
