Ramsden to steal the prize

- Herald Racing Editor

THE Joey Ramsden-trained Prince Of Thieves looks hard to beat in the R200 000 Champion Juvenile Cup (Grade 3) over 1 400m at Fairview tomorrow.

The two-year-old son of Rebel King seems to be a superstar in the making and comes to Port Elizabeth with great form. Prince Of Thieves boasts a win as well as two seconds and two thirds from five outings thus far.

His first victory came in his penultimate race where he defeated Schachar by 0,40 lengths over 1 400m. On that occasion he was hard ridden to win.

In his last start, Prince Of Thieves ran second, 0,40 lengths behind Ernie when he tried to make every post a winning one.

Prince Of Thieves will have Bernard Fayd’Herbe, who also rode him in his last race, in the saddle.

His main danger could be the Alan Greeff-trained Juan Two Three and the Gavin Smith-trained Shiraz Cabernet.

Juan Two Three, who is owned by Messrs CG & LF Scribante, is a three-time winner from four starts and has already earned R174 375 compared to Prince Of Thieves’ R81 125.

In his last race Juan two Three defeated Captain Swarovski by 2,50 lengths over 1 200m and, with Greg Cheyne up, poses a big threat to the Cape Town visitor.

Shiraz Cabernet has won once and placed five times in six outings. She will have the promising Craig Zackey in the irons. In her only win she outclassed her opposition to beat High Fashion by 7,75 lengths.

Other runners in with a chance include Dynamic Speed, Captain Swarovski, The Cat and The Stone Thrower. The Stone Thrower is also a Ramsden entry, but the fact that Raymond Danielson rides it for Ingrid and Markus Jooste shows he can hardly be left out of the exotics.

The first race is off at 1210 with a Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1 200m. Eleven runners will face the starter.
