ONE of Port Elizabeth’s most wellknown nurseries has moved shop.

Floradale Nurseries, which was in William Moffett Expressway, has relocated to Circular Drive in Charlo.

The nursery was started in East London by Christian and Elsa Muller in 1937.

The family business expanded to Port Elizabeth in 1996.

Peter John Muller, 45, who owns and manages the Port Elizabeth branch, said it had been a family decision to move because they had wanted to buy their own premises. “We were renting before we moved,” he said.

“We thought it would be more cost-effective in the long run to purchase our own premises because we have a long-term vision.”

He said they had chosen Circular Drive because it was close to the market they had built up over the years.

Muller said response to the new premises had been better than expected.

“We announced our move on our Facebook page and we were overwhelmed with the positive response. It worked unbelievably well,” he said.

Muller said the nursery had been started by his grandparents in East London.

“They started off very small but they worked together and Floradale has now become a well-known family business.”

His brother Timothy Muller manages the outlet in East London.

Port Elizabeth customers were impressed with the new premises.

Ida Dodds, 79, said: “It’s beautiful. It’s definitely a lovely place to come to on a sunny day.”

Robert Owen, 73, said he was happy with the move and had supported the nursery since it opened.
