PSL scores for Kiwi Brockie

- Mark Gleeson

JEREMY Brockie has credited the Premier Soccer League with reviving his career after he returned to international action with New Zealand on Monday.

Brockie, and his SuperSport United teammate Michael Boxall, were in the starting lineup for the Kiwis in a 1-1 friendly draw away in Myanmar (Burma) as they prepare for next year’s start of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

The 27-year-old Brockie made the move from Wellington Phoenix to SuperSport United in January and said the change of scenery had paid quick dividends.

Brockie claims the PSL jump-started his career in a number of ways and helped him to become a regular goal-scorer again.

“I think I made it pretty clear when I left the Phoenix my reasons were that the style of football didn’t really suit me at the club anymore.

“At [SuperSport] they provide me with a lot more opportunities to score goals.

“Because I was looking for a move, that enthusiasm came back into me and I’m really enjoying my football again.

“That all helps and then having the family settled nicely off the pitch too – it all contributes to me doing well on it.”

Brockie earned his 47th cap on Monday in the 1-1 draw, but has been shy on goals for the national team.

“You have be performing whenever you get that opportunity in the national team and be performing at club level as well,” he said.

“In the past, you were just about guaranteed a spot whether you were playing for your club or not, but now we have to perform all the time.”
