TOP METRO OFFICIALS SUSPENDED

SO Roland Williams has been suspended (“More officials in hot water”, September 8)! Again! What happens next? I guess the same old, same old. What about the municipal manager who should have been fired at least a year ago? Why is Danny Jordaan dragging his heels?

RICHARD, CHARLO, PORT ELIZABETH

DANNY Jordaan shows the red card to senior officials: is it just another smokescreen?

A MYBURGH, RICHMOND HILL, PORT ELIZABETH

THE city manager must be seriously ill if he needs another full week’s sick leave. (Hope he gets well soon.) Coincidence that it’s at the same time that he is under investigation. Certain the required doctor’s certificate he hands in will be legitimate. The human settlement director is also on sick leave pending suspension.

ROMANO MARGON

I SINCERELY hope these suspensions do not come with full pay! That would be heaven for them to sit around, with no work and full pay!

GWEN THE latest municipal suspensions seems to be nothing more than a window dressing farce. Considering Roland Williams’s previous slap on the wrist as well as some already being suspended since June! Not to mention the fact that a director ( nogal,) who was suspended in 2007 but again reinstated in 2009, is seemingly nowhere to be found as his latest suspension will only be served as soon as the acting city manager “can locate him”. Ha ha. Can it be more pathetic?

ERIC

SICK leave of the city manager extended till Friday – and on full pay too. He would not last a week in commerce. Talk about protected employment. Join NMBM.

CAPRICORN THE suspended municipal officials will be enjoying extended holidays at the ratepayers’ expense and never have to face the consequences of their actions. Nice work if you can get it. What an absolute farce and disgrace!

JAX

HERE is a classic example of why cadre deployment will never work, placing people with political connections instead of viable skills.

MAKE PROVISION FOR FUTURE WATER NEEDS

IS it not wonderful our dams are overflowing (“Dams overflowing – and more rain is on the way”, September 8), but what has our wonderful governing ANC done about harnessing all the wasted overflow for the dry times that lie ahead? In 20 years not one dam of notable size has been built. A recent visit by our “stop the leaks” president is not going to make more of this valuable resource available.

ROBERT

DAMS overflowing – and we note that the NMBM has reminded residents that we remain a water-scarce area. So maybe our municipality needs to get a move on and attend to leaks with alacrity for a change!

RALEPELLE CERTAINLY A BLACK CAPTAIN

KAZEKA Kuse, just to put you right. Your article in Tuesday’s The Herald on transformation in the Springbok rugby team states that it has never had a black captain (“Need more transformation in Springbok team”)! Chiliboy Ralepelle was not white! Not even when he was captain!

ROSS, SUMMERSTRAND, PORT ELIZABETH

KAZEKA Kuse says: “The rugby team has never had a black captain.” Your credibility is at stake if you don’t get your facts right. Chiliboy Ralepelle captained South Africa in 2009 in the UK.

RALEPELLE first captained the Boks in a game in 2006 and then again in 2009. – The editor

MUNICIPALITY FAILING BETHELSDORP PEOPLE

THE NMMM fails the residents of Bethelsdorp. On Saturday at the Finnis Street sportsfields I had to watch with disappointment my son playing soccer on long grass that was cut last year. The metro has failed this area. Where is this new mayor with his big budget? Please, your budget must speak to the needs of the people. To all the directors at parks and recreation, I think you must also be suspended for not doing your jobs. We need people like the former caretaker of the Finnis Street sportsfields, when at times resources are not needed but passion and pride in what you do.

MARK, BETHELSDORP, PORT ELIZABETH

NO COMMENT ON CURRENT STATE OF SA

PETER Hain was in the Eastern Cape (“Former British MP revisits Port Alfred past”, September 4), but not much to say about the current anarchy and crime infested country he left and would never dream of returning to.

AL PEREIRA

CONCENTRATE ON IMPORTANT MATTERS

IT is sad that the ruling party is contemplating taking away the rights of SA citizens (“ANC warned on dual citizenship ban”, September 7), instead of concerning itself with safe neighbourhoods, enough jobs, better healthcare and education, proper housing, etc. Reminds one of the pre-1994 era when the government of the day wanted to alienate the SA citizens of the homelands of their birthright. The more things change, the more they remain the same!

LIGHTS ON ALL DAY AND NIGHT

THE street lights at the top end of Driftsands Drive in Humewood have now been on 24/7 for more than 30 days! Seems we have loads of electricity to waste! Please explain, NMMM.

M CARSE, HUMEWOOD, PORT ELIZABETH

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LEGAL AND MORAL

WALTER Palmer (the dentist who killed Cecil the lion) defends his actions as being legal (“US dentist who killed Cecil the lion breaks silence and returns to work”, September 8), but has nothing to say about it being moral. The hunters and organisers of the wildlife “herded hunt” that took place in Limpopo recently (“Scores of animals herded past hunters”, September 8) also do know the difference between what is legal and what is moral!

GIVE LUKE WATSON A BREAK

COME on folk, (CW K, “EP Kings played well”, September 8)), give Luke Watson a break. He has been forgiven by God, so who are we to keep on chastising him? If you look a little deeper you will find out that Watson does a great deal for destitute people, of all races. A little love goes a long way.
