Weights Stacked in Seattle’s favour

- Herald Racing Editor

BRIDE’S Dowry and Strong Scent have all the experience, but don’t be surprised if owner Fred Crabbia collects another winner’s cheque with Stacked By Seattle in the Walmer Handicap over 1800m at Fairview tomorrow.

Stacked By Seattle will be ridden by Craig Zackey for trainer Justin Snaith and must be respected even though she is considered an outsider by bookmakers.

The four-year-old daughter of Sail From Seattle is a onetime winner from 11 starts, but came close in her last race when, ridden by JP van der Merwe, she finished just 0.50 lengths behind Chili Chocolate over 1900m. Stacked By Seattle carries only 52kg, compared to Bride’s Dowry’s weight of 62kg, Strong Scent’s 60.5kg and Kumiko’s 57kg.

Although she is out at the weights, that huge pull should put the Crabbia-owned runner right in the picture.

Jockey Andrew Fortune is in red-hot form and will be aboard Bride’s Dowry. She is a seven-time winner from 26 outings and a far better horse than a sixth place in her last start suggests.

Strong Scent is a five-time winner from 22 outings and also rates a massive chance. Karl Zechner takes the ride for the Dorrie Sham stable and Strong Scent will be out to follow up on her last win, when she beat Cat And The Moon over 2000m.

Kumiko, from the Alan Greeff yard, is one of Port Elizabeth’s most promising horses.

In her last outing the daughter of Silvano ran a 1.5-length third behind Royal Lecture over 1600m. With Greg Cheyne up, Kumiko must also have a massive chance.

Then there are Chili Chocolate and Rare Stone who have the ability to shape, while punters must also beware of Varster with S’manga Khumalo up. In the final analysis though, Stacked By Seattle gets the nod to upstage Kumiko, Chili Chocolate and Strong Scent.

Racing starts at 1.15pm with a Fairview Maiden Plate over 2200m.
