Death of lensman saddens sports fraternity

SPORTS Minister Fikile Mbalula joined sports and media personalit­ies in paying tribute to top sports photograph­er Duif du Toit‚ who died yesterday. He was 57.

“Some of the best pictures that captured our sport history were taken by Duif du Toit‚ sad to learn about his passing‚” the minister shared on his Twitter feed ?@MbalulaFik­ile.

Du Toit‚ who loved covering cricket and was equally well-known on the country’s rugby fields‚ suffered organ failure.

His employer‚ Gallo Images‚ confirmed on its website that he had died after a short illness.

Former Protea Mark Boucher (?@markb46) tweeted‚ “RIP Duif du Toit! Condolence­s to family and friends. A great friend to the Protea family‚ a legend and even a greater man! U will be missed!” Former skipper Graeme Smith ?@GraemeSmit­h49 responded: “Well said bouch. #RIPDuif. I personally will have such fond memories of him! Thoughts with family and friends.”
