Bravo, as Ajax party in Bay

Footballers just as nimble in their dancing shoes

-

MY WEEKEND of social shenanigans started at the launch of the new Craft restaurant at the Boardwalk on Thursday.

The place looks most inviting and I enjoyed its location, looking out over the Boardwalk lake.

I bumped into Seki Mandaba, who was looking glamorous and beautiful. Hlubi Hewitt-Coleman was there with husband, Tim, and looked fresh and funky with her short hairstyle.

She also opted for a mini-dress, so I guess it's true: age is nothing but a number.

Umhlobo Wenene FM DJs Pastor and Mafa Bavuma kept us entertained with their jokes. But Pastor did not want to eat as he had already eaten somewhere else. Who comes to the opening of a new restaurant having eaten elsewhere, I ask you!

He was also seen ordering a Black Jack beer, which apparently was too much for him, since he then opted for a Castle Lite.

On Saturday, I partied up a storm at Bravo Bar, also at the Boardwalk, the venue for an Ajax Cape Town after party.

The players were certainly in the mood to be merry – they had just won the MTN8 Cup final, after all.

I am not big on soccer and though the game was engaging, I found it far more entertaining watching the players dancing the nae nae at Bravo Bar afterwards.

Celtic player Botha Msila, from Bloemfontein, danced as if his life depended on it. Musician Tururu and his wife also had us on the floor with their kwaito renditions.

This pair proved to be a very talented couple, as they took guests down memory lane with their oldschool kwaito.

DJ Pastor was back again as emcee but did not stay long.

I bumped into Mandla Madwara, who was wearing a grey suit which was a bit too serious for the occasion. But who cares: the Bay’s social mayor was around and knows how to enjoy himself – even in a stuffy suit.

I also noticed that he has finally had that gap in his front teeth taken care of. He’ll have to be careful when attacking them bones – we wouldn’t want another little accident.

Businesswoman Xabisa James, who wore a bright red top with matching lipstick, sure knows how to shake what her mama gave her – she and a couple of friends made their presence felt.

On the downside, some guy from the Ajax technical team clearly had had one too many. I was mortified when I saw him hitting the lights with a crutch he had grabbed from an injured player.

Eish, no need to take it out on the property – that’s taking the celebrations one step too far.

There will be so much energy in the Bay this weekend when we host the AMAAs (African Movie Academy Awards). Be nice to the visitors and Skinnerbek will bring you all the juicy goss next week!
