Spot-on advice would help with tricky card

- Punters’ Pal

IT has not been easy for punters in recent times, with the Fairview polytrack producing some upsets.

We are in for yet another tricky card of eight races on the poly today. It might be worth asking trainer Mitch Wiese to tip us a winner if his horse-racing tipping is in the same class as his rugby predictions.

At last Friday’s meeting Wiese was telling everyone who cared to listen that Japan would cause a major upset at the Rugby World Cup by beating South Africa.

Unfortunately, none of us took Wiese’s advice seriously as he warned that Japan were a well coached team, with some fine players, and that the Boks would underestimate them.

Well, we need that sort of guidance from Wiese to help us through the card today. There are some possible bankers but there are also some races where one should really go wide in your bets.

The Walmer Handicap for fillies and mares over 1 800m is the main race. It is a small field of seven runners that will contest this. This bat- tle has a rather open look. With the stable of Dorrie Sham – dubbed the queen of Port Elizabeth racing in the social media – in red hot form, the mare Strong Scent must be a huge runner.

Kumiko is having her second run after a layoff. This will put some punters off, but Kumiko ran very well in her comeback run. She must be included in everything.

The other runner to watch out for in this event is Chili Chocolate. She made a winning Port Elizabeth debut recently and if she has improved further from that run, she is in with a big winning chance.

Today’s meeting will start to get the Port Elizabeth racing fans in the right mood for next month. There is the Fairview 1 800 next Friday and the Cradock Place Stakes the following week. The big one is the Algoa Cup meeting on October 25.

You should also make a note of Friday, November 13, when Fairview will be hosting a jockey test for the first time. Punters’ Pal tips for Fairview: PA R432 2-3/1-6-8/5-10/1-3-5/2-3-5/8/2-3-4-6 PICK6 R1 440 1-6-8/5-10/1-2-3-4-5/2-3-5/1-2-4-8/2-3-4-6
