Madibaz celebrate after claiming knockout title

DESPITE conceding the EP men’s premier league hockey title to Lakeside Cavaliers this year, the Mecer NMMU Madibaz had something to celebrate when they won the inaugural Fain HKY KO Series at the weekend.

The Madibaz sides made it a double triumph because the women’s team also took the KO title, with both teams registerin­g convincing wins in the final.

The KO Series grouped teams from the premier and president’s leagues into one section, and first and second league sides in the B division. Handicaps were given to the lower-ranked sides. The results were: Semifinals, women’s B: St Peters w/o v Old Collegians Acad; Uitenhage 0 Gelvan Panthers 2; men’s B: Old Vics 4 Gelvan Legends 7, St Peters 3 SK Northerns 1; women’s A: Old Collegians 4 St Peters 1, NMMU Madibaz w/o v Rhodes Rats; men’s A: Mecer NMMU Madibaz w/o v Rhodes, Gelvan Force 4 Gelvan Hurricanes 9
