The gospel about high heels, troubles with cropped suits
AFTER a hectic week I took myself off to Ibhayi Tshisanyama at NU2 in Motherwell for a some good vibes and a much-needed chill-out session on Saturday night. The place is always buzzing with sassy ladies and hot blokes showing off their snazzy cars outside. And of course it never disappoints when it comes to the music.
It also looks like it is ANC Youth League chairman Xolani Mgxotheni’s favourite chill spot. I was not too surprised when I saw him there with his entourage last weekend. Some were wearing ANC T-shirts and for a moment I thought they were there to campaign, but shem, they only showed up to enjoy some kasi braai.
I also spotted socialite Likhaya Sikhatho, whom I haven’t seen in a while. He is still driving his Crossfire. Likhaya was enjoying a dumpie when I always imagined a guy like him would prefer whisky.
On Sunday I headed for the Department of Water and Sanitation’s Imvuselelo campaign at Dan Qeqe stadium in Zwide.
Artists like Bethusile Mcinga, Veliswa Skeyi and Andile B were performing there. That’s the part I was actually looking forward to, so I could end my weekend on a high note with some good gospel music.
I was greeted by a few men wearing cropped suits, for lack of a better term. I am specifically referring to big-bellied guys wearing suits that are clearly too small for them.
We can always trust our politicians to attract the fashion police!
I wonder what councillor Nomajama Benya was thinking when she chose that big blue hat? She was a colourful picture in said hat, yellow jacket and floral skirt. I couldn’t even force myself to look at the shoes.
There were those who came dressed to the nines only to sit outside. The heels soon became a bit too much and they ended up wearing flip-flops.
The wind was also particularly unkind to those who had weaves. There were even a few gals on the lookout for some souls to bless them, if you know what I mean. I am talking about girls who don’t mind sleeping rich and waking up poor, with a R20 breakfast as consolation.
Bethusile had us all dancing up a storm. Minister Nomvula Mokonyane could not help herself and shook what her mama gave her – she sure knows how to get down and have a good time. Council speaker Maria Hermans was pious in her bright yellow maxi-dress.
Councillor Mfundo Vena also joined Bethusile on stage. I wanted Mfundo to sing, but everyone was singing along, so I don’t know if his mic was for decoration or if he was genuinely singing. But who cares when you’re there to quench your soul with the gospel.
Mid-week, I popped by Savages Fine Food in Park Drive for the launch of Sue Hoppe’s new book, Travels/ Troubles with Koos. Koos is her and husband Max’s misbehaving 4x4 that is always landing them in all sorts of crazy situations.
That car is such a naughty boy that I wonder if the two have not been secretly plotting to sell him for scrap.
Good luck with that, now that Koos is becoming famous!
