Upsets in table tennis league

THE Nelson Mandela Bay table tennis league produced some exciting play this week, with several upsets being caused.

The premier division started with a catch-up match between Callies A and Livvie Alumni A, with both sides fired up to do well.

This resulted in a close encounter, which ended in a 6-5 win for Callies.

Nceba Ngcingwane proved invaluable for Callies, winning all his matches.

Aryan A defeated their C team 9-2, but it was a hardfought match, with most of the ties going to three games.

Dipal Bhana and Neil Hendricks won all their games.

Callies A easily defeated Madibaz A 10-1, with Robert Kuscus excelling.

Selvan Sammy narrowly beat Avish Ramcharan 11-8 5-11 13-11 to win all his games.

In a tough contest, Aryan B defeated Livvie Alumni A 7-4, Shahied Abrahams playing a crucial role in their victory.

In the first division, newcomers Rockets A pulled off an upset, convincing­ly beating champions Madibaz B 7-4.

Prishen Ryan showed good form to win all his games.

Rockets B followed their A team’s example to defeat Madibaz C 6-5, with Shakeel Cassim leading the way.

Aryan D convincing­ly defeated CSL Damascus 8-3, but CSL captain Claud Lawack kept his team in the hunt by winning his matches.

Despatch easily defeated Livvie Alumni C, 9-2, with brothers Julian and Ruben Horne proving too much for their opponents.

In the remaining fixture, Livvie Alumni B played well to defeat Madibaz D 8-3.
