Focus on stayers in Lakeside Handicap

-

THE focus will be on the stayers today at the Fairview racecourse in Port Elizabeth.

An interesting Lakeside Handicap over 2 400m is the main event. Only nine runners will face the starter, but it looks quite open.

Staying races have always been popular among local racegoers.

It is interesting that this race was won by former trainer Mitch Wiese over the past two years.

Wiese is finding his feet in Aus- tralia these days, but will be keen to hear what is happening at his old stomping ground.

The Lakeside Handicap is not the only race not to miss today.

The mare Blizzard Belle is attempting to make it six victories in a row when she contests a Conditions Plate.

Six wins in a row is no mean feat, but she has got a good chance of pulling it off.

In the same race, stablemate Love To Sail makes her Port Elizabeth debut after campaigning in Gauteng. If see finds her best form we can look forward to some fine performances. Also keep an eye on the Pinnacle Stakes for fillies and mares over 1 400m. This could turn into an exciting finish between Sunset Tripp and Purely Atomic.

Another interesting race is a handicap for three year olds where Fly Like The Wind will not complain that Memphis Mafia is not in the race.

Fly Like The Wind was second in his last two starts to Memphis Mafia, who has since been sold and is on his way to Mauritius.

Indeed there is lots to look for- ward to, but it gets even better in the holiday period.

Public holidays in PE means fine racing.

A unique holiday racing period awaits racing fans with meetings on the three upcoming public holidays within the space of eight days.

No doubt the Easter bunny will be making an appearance at some stage at Fairview to secure a festive atmosphere. Punters’ Pal tips for Fairview today: PA R320 1-2-8-9/1-2/1-7/1-5/1-3/1/1-3-4-6-8 PICK 6 R1 344 1-2/1-7/1-2-3-5/1-3-4/1-3-4-6/1-3-4-6-8-11-12
