HERO OF THE WEEK

KAITLYNN VAN ROOYEN THE young Port Elizabeth cerebral palsy sufferer will be competing in the Spur IronKids event to raise funds for children with cancer.

Apart from her fundraising, Kaitlynn, 12 – a Grade 7 pupil at Cape Recife School – has an inspiring approach to life when she says that people look at the disabled and think they are different, when in fact they are not.

“What is important is our heart and that is what makes us different. I don’t let my disability get in the way of something I want to do. If I don’t know how to do it, I don’t give up, I ask for help.” There’s a valuable lesson there for everyone.
