Another delay in Plett child porn case
A PLETTENBERG Bay computer engineer with alleged links to a horrific international baby pornography network appeared briefly in the Knysna Regional Court yesterday.
The 37-year-old man, who cannot be named until he has pleaded, was arrested on January 13 last year after South African and Belgian police raided his home and allegedly found sections of files containing hundreds of images and videos of violent assaults of mostly babies in nappies.
Police also allegedly found internet addresses of more than 300 other alleged paedophiles.
The matter was yesterday postponed until May 12 as plea and sentencing negotiations had not yet been completed.
Lieutenant Colonel Heila Niemand, head of the Gauteng family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit, and investigating officer Sergeant Delene Grobler attended court yesterday to discuss delays in the case with the various role players.
Women and Men Against Child Abuse spokeswoman Joanne Barrett said their presence showed the importance of the case. – Yolande Stander
