Aston’s new beauty

- Paul Hudson

BRITISH luxury sports car manufacturer Aston Martin has announced it will produce a limited production run of 99 examples of the Vanquish Zagato, revealed at the prestigious Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, Italy recently.

The company says unprecedented customer interest persuaded it to build a strictly limited production run. The cars will be built to order at Aston Martin’s factory at Gaydon, in Warwickshire, England.

The Vanquish Zagato continues a long tradition of the English sports cars that have been styled in Milan by Zagato, the most famous being the DB4 Zagato, considered the most desirable Aston Martin ever made.

It was also the first collaboration between the two companies, in 1962, and is a regular fixture on many an “all-time most beautiful cars” list. It’s also one of the world’s most sought-after cars, fetching £9.5-million (R203.6-million) at an auction late last year.

No prices have been announced yet, but expectations are that the Vanquish Zagato will cost in the region of £500 000 (R10.7-million).

However, all 99 cars have already been sold, leading to speculation they could change hands for significantly more than the list price.

This has already happened with the limited edition Porsche 911 R, which has a list price of £136 901 (R2.9-million) but is already selling for between £585 000 (R12.5-million) and £861 000 (R18.4-million). – The Telegraph
