PE drivers up ante at champs

-

PORT Elizabeth drivers once again showed great form in the third round of the SA Karting Championships held in KwaZulu-Natal at the weekend.

The day’s racing was held at the daunting and demanding Idube Kart circuit situated just outside Pietermaritzburg.

In the DD2 Masters Class, Michael Stephen, driving his Midas CRG racing machine, dominated the Masters Class by winning all three races and now has an almost unchallengeable lead on this championship.

In second and third places are Nicholas Verhuel from Gauteng and Jonathan Pieterse from KwaZulu-Natal.

With very close and exciting racing, Stephen has also maintained his lead in the overall DD2 Class championship, followed closely by Brad Liebenberg from Gauteng and Benjamin Habig from KwaZulu-Natal.

In the fiercely contested 60cc Mini Rok Class, Port Elizabeth’s Joshua Coertze claimed an excellent third position for the day, with the top three drivers, Charl Visser (CT), Kwanda Mokoena (Gauteng) and Joshua Coertze from PE now being separated by a mere three points going into the final round in Vereeniging on July 16.

The Senior Max Class had Eastern Cape competitors Shannon Jackson from East London and Chad Evans from PE, with Jackson tying for seventh place and Evans finishing 13th.

Jackson now lies fifth in the championship and Evans moves up to eighth.
