Pepper pulls off best drive of the day

BRILLIANT action, a large crowd and pleasant weather typified the Extreme Festival race meeting at the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria.

Drive of the day must go to Tasmin Pepper (Alpine Motors Polo) who in race two of the Comsol VW Challenge was knocked to the back of the grid on the first lap and scythed through the field to eventually finished second, behind Waldie Meintjes (Lee Thompson Polo).

Pepper won the first heat from Meintjes.

Port Elizabeth’s Daniel Rowe, Mathew Hodges and Mandla Mdakana dominated both Global Touring Car races in their VW Motorsport Golf GTi entries.

G&H Transport Extreme’s Charl Arangies dominated the Supercar races ahead of Jonathan du Toit (TAR Ferrari 430).

The race ended on a dramatic note when Loris Chiappa lost control of his Morris Cranes Ferrari 430 GT3 on the last lap at some 200km/h and hit a crash barrier at full tilt. The car underwent a dramatic devaluatio­n, but Chiappa was unhurt.

In the 111 Sports and Saloon Car race, Chad Wentzel (Alfa Romeo GT), beat George Bezuidenho­ut (Accolade Nissan Primera) into second in both races.

Dewald Brummer (Ango Truck Mygale) won both Investchem Formula 1600 races.

The first Autobarn Northern Bolt & Tool SuperHatch race was won by Brett Garland (Autobarn Honda Civic), ahead of Jonathan du Toit (TAR Honda Civic).

The second race was red-flagged when Jono Konig put his ASAP Peugeot 206 on its side. Morne Human (Ancro Mini Cooper) was declared the winner.

Gert van den Berg (BP Nantes Rhema) and Symm Grobler (Rhema) finished first and second in both the Hankook Formula Vee heats.

Mark Lauth (Fantastic Shelby) won the first National Sports Car Challenge race, with Jon Wilson (Fin Metals Shelby) winning the second.

The next Extreme Festival series meeting at Zwartkops will be on August 9.
