SARU TO BLAME

SARU must be blamed for the demise and destruction of Eastern Province rugby. Saru is not managed by “rugby people”, but by a lawyer and cronies. Never mind Cheeky Watson and his R200-million “sponsorship”. Saru has an obligation to all rugby players in Eastern Province, schools to provincial. What can top schools and club rugby players aspire to now, with no senior provincial platform to aim for? A further exodus of our top schools players, who would also form the backbone of our club rugby, is a definite occurrence now. And all the other provinces are waiting with open arms. Sad. PAIR CLEARLY INCOMPETENT

FAITH Muthambi states that the decisions taken by Hlaudi Motsoeneng and his team are revolutionary. More like sheer stupidity, I would think. It is a fact that these two are clearly incompetent and not worth the huge salaries that we pay them. Both should be summarily dismissed from their positions with no golden handshakes! PAUL

LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS

“BATTLE for the Bay” (July 29): what a striking difference between the messages on page 12 from the ANC’s Mlibo Qoboshiyane vs the DA’s Athol Trollip! Typical ANC racist/divide and rule rubbish vs a constructive DA position, not even mentioning the ANC once! Come tomorrow hopefully we all vote with our brains and get rid of these useless ANC promise-breakers! READER

WELCOME to PE, the Wild, Wild West. DA, please save us. Mmusi Maimane, you are our Barack Obama. DP

IF you vote for the ANC tomorrow, you approve of Jacob Zuma spending R246-million of our money on his house at Nkandla. Your call and do not moan afterwards. IP

WON’T vote ANC, can’t vote DA because its supporters also dance and chant like idiots. EFF members are mad, so who do I vote for? DISINTERESTED

MMUSI Maimane bellows in an accent he reserves for township people, saying that he subscribes to the values of Nelson Mandela! Actions speak louder than words. Show us, don’t tell us! Mandela was very much his own man. He would never have been found preaching in a fundamentalist church. He did not flip flop, and change his manner and accent depending on who he was talking to! He was consistent. He didn’t raise his voice or wag his finger. He would never have agreed to hold a referendum to bring back the death penalty. He was a man who could think on his feet. He gave straight answers. A true statesman (see the Ted Koppel interview). He was assertive, never defensive or patronising. Who is Maimane? A man from Dobsonville or “the other side of the tracks”? Prophet or puppet? VOTER

ANYONE else noticed that when there is discontent with the DA’s candidate list, people cross to other parties, when there is discontent with the ANC’s list, people die? “By their fruits shall ye know them.” DERRICK FELLOWS

BE warned. The ANC members must stop being stupid and defecting to the UDM. They must remember what happened to the UDM rule in the municipality in Mthatha from the past. Wake up and smell the coffee. Vote for the ANC. DEAF READER

CAN I vote anywhere? RESIDENT

ACCORDING to the IEC fact sheet for the municipal elections, you can only vote in the specific voting district where you are registered. – The editor

IF the politicians were serious about the people of PE, the service delivery and standard of living should have been addressed over the past 20 years. The politicians must realise that some of the residents can think for themselves. CITIZEN

AFTER casting a special vote at the voting station at the Portuguese Club the ink used on my nail before voting washed off with cold water when I got home. Maybe worth checking? Normally it took weeks to wear off. DS

MOTORCYCLISTS GET AWAY WITH NO FINES

I WILL not pay any speeding fine from hidden cameras that have been taken from the front. The traffic law is not equal to all road users as motorcyclists who go through the same camera at normally two or three times faster than I do in my vehicle get away with it and I get caught. That is discrimination against car drivers. I have no problem if it is taken from the back as then the playing field is equal. PETER

RICHMOND HILL SRA

RICHMOND Hill SRA, stop bragging (“SRA now painting markings”, July 29), you are simply doing what the municipality should be doing for our rates payments! What a joke. No SRA in Kabega. KABEGA RESIDENT

THE Richmond Hill SRA only needs a mayor to complete its municipality and its team of DA supporters. As for Athol Trollip becoming the metro mayor, that is wishful thinking. A MYBURGH, RICHMOND HILL, PORT ELIZABETH

TEACH JZ HOW TO PRONOUNCE APARTHEID

PLEASE, is there no one in the ANC that can give Jacob Zuma a lesson in pronouncing a-part-hate (apartheid)? When he starts with his appatyd, I visualise his party gouging on food. In 22 years he should have learnt the proper pronunciation. MS
