Generous prizes await Matric of the Year competitio­n winners

SHOPPING vouchers and Samsung tablets are some of the prizes on offer to this year’s The Herald Continenta­l Matric of the Year finalists.

Walmer Park and Vodacom are once again associated with the awards and have sponsored prizes to the value of R30 696.

Walmer Park Shopping Centre will give each of the 20 finalists a R300 voucher, the category award winners will each receive a R1 000 voucher, the scholarshi­p award winner will receive a R2 000 voucher and the overall winner will receive a R3 000 shopping voucher.

Vodacom will give both the overall winner and the scholarshi­p winner a Samsung Tab A 9.7” valued at R7 699 each.

They will also both receive 1GB data bundles valued at R149 each.

Walmer Park Shopping Centre marketing manager Deveda Bloem said: “Rewarding matric pupils for exceptiona­l results is something we feel very privileged to be a part of every year.

“This year we hope not only to see candidates from our city and surroundin­g areas excelling in academics, but also in community involvemen­t.

“As a community shopping centre, Walmer Park prides itself on giving back to our community and we would like to see learners doing the same – it’s so important to ‘pay it forward’.”

Vodacom regional marketing coordinato­r Morne Stulting values Vodacom’s involvemen­t with the awards as they are a platform to recognise pupils who will contribute to the future of society.

“Vodacom prides itself on getting involved with and supporting educationa­l programmes that seek to improve the quality of education in the country,” he said.

“Vodacom has been consistent through our social responsibi­lity wing, Vodacom Foundation, in partnering with the Department of Basic Education (DBE) on various projects that seek to improve the lives of future leaders.

“Most recently, we have partnered with the DBE and other strategic partners on our latest offering, Vodacom e-School, which is an educationa­l portal that was launched early this year by the minister of basic education.”

Matric of the Year nomination­s close at noon on Friday August 19.

Completed nomination forms with all the required documentat­ion may be submitted to Matric of the Year Awards, Newspaper House, 19 Baakens Street, Port Elizabeth, for the attention of Berna Walters.

Entries can also be posted to Matric of the Year Awards, The Herald, Private Bag X6071, Port Elizabeth, 6000, marked for Berna Walters’ attention.
