Police find recipe to help loneliness

-

POLICE in Rome responded to a distress call from neighbours of an elderly couple who had been heard in hysterics.

When the officers arrived, they found Michele, 94, and his wife, Jole, 89,in tears, overcome by loneliness and despair over all the world’s terrible news, so the officers did something rather wonderful.

They asked if they might look inside the kitchen pantry and then, upon finding some simple ingredients, offered to cook the couple a meal of pasta, butter and cheese.

“Nothing special,” the police department wrote on its Facebook page last week. “But with a precious ingredient – their humanity.”
