Centre trains youth
THE article about a German bank donating R20-million for the development of Helenvale (“Peace project launched in Helenvale”, July 30) reminded me of a visit to Happydale Hope Centre. Volunteers are running a centre for about 50 children mainly from Helenvale.
Their mission is to develop skills and crafts so that these children can be kept off the streets and eke out a living should they leave the centre at the age of 18.
If this centre can receive financial aid it can be developed into a fully-fledged skills centre. A visit to the centre will show what is being done with the meagre resources available: woodwork, sewing, embroidery, flower arrangements, recycling, and arts and craft.
It would be appreciated if the powers that be pay a visit to the centre and see how they can be of assistance.
