Kowie business owner murdered
A 40-year-old man was arrested in Port Alfred following an altercation yesterday that left a business owner and well-known surfer dead.
Noel Maddocks, in his 30s, was found dead in Alfred Street after being stabbed to death during an argument and physical fight with the suspect.
Police spokeswoman Captain Mali Govender said: “According to witness reports, the incident took place somewhere between 1am and 2am.”
“Officers were notified and arrested a 40-year-old man on the scene and charged him with murder.”
Maddocks was declared dead at the scene.
The motive for the attack is unclear at this stage.
He was the owner of Port Alfred company IT Solutions Coastal.
Cheryl-Ann Lee Klare, the mother of Maddocks’s daughter Grace, who lives in Gauteng, expressed her shock about the incident on her Facebook page.
“It was with absolute shock and devastation that we learnt the news of the tragic and utterly senseless passing of our beloved Noel Maddocks . . . my childhood sweetheart who remained a close friend and most importantly, an incredible father to our Amazing Grace,” she said.
She also requested people to be considerate towards their daughter when posting anything on social media.
She was not available for comment last night.
