Preparation for 2019 national elections

- Kenneth Mokgatlhe, PAC national spokesperson

THE Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC) is very happy with the election results of this year. It was a learning and preparatory exercise towards 2019.

We have been experiencing organisational recycling whereby we were renewing and adjusting the organisation to the politics of the 21st century digital age.

It is unfortunate that the media described that as factionalism while we were washing the organisation.

We are through that stage and come to understand the international power struggle, hence we take elections seriously because it seems regular elections are important tenets of any existing democracy.

Despite the organisational challenges we faced, the PAC secured more than 55 000 votes, as compared to the poor 30 000 of the national general polls in 2014. It shows that the people need the PAC to come to them.

We acknowledge that we have not been adequately accessible to the people and that was largely fuelled by a financial factor because one needs capital to travel and buy other assets such as promotional materials.

We fully support the silent protest at the official results announcement.

The elections were conducted in a very important month, the month to value and honour the past, present and future contribution of women in our societies.

It is a naked secret that women are still subjected to various forms of oppression. We must also reckon that protests are legal in this country as long as the protestor does not threaten the security of another person or damage property.

The ANCWL’s Bathabile Dlamini is wrong to suggest that Jacob Zuma was innocent and therefore the matter should be forgotten.

There are many criminals living with us daily and they were never convicted because they have good lawyers or good associations, and that does not suggest that they have never done what they were accused of.

We expected Dlamini at least to have defended the women who face patriarchal dominance every day of their lives. Dlamini chose to defend her darling organisation and her stomach.

The very same Nomvula Mokonyane who is accusing Julius Malema of having insulted her is the same person who reduced women to nothing when she claimed that women in the ANC would defend Zuma.

Women will have to unite themselves and expect nothing from women in the ANCWL because those ones are caring greatly about their salaries.
