HOW COULD VETERAN BE FORGOTTEN?

LILLIAN Diedericks forgotten (“Iconic marcher fears being forgotten”, August 10): I sincerely hope that this veteran’s omission from the historic women’s march to the Union Buildings was an oversight, but then the reply from the Minister in the Presidency responsible for the women projects secretariat, Madichaba Milosevic, stated “they had not been aware of Diedericks’s role in the historic march”. This is shocking when this comes from the secretariat responsible and the custodian of women’s rights in the Presidency.

When the photo posted by The Herald is general knowledge, not only in our country, how is it possible that this stalwart could be forgotten when she is clearly in the forefront? We call on the authorities to give us an explanation.

There is a widespread belief that a certain community is excluded when it comes to struggle credentials and their role during the dark years of our country. This struggle veteran in her 90s and her community do not deserve this.

If this is not corrected, the marginalised will use their voting power as they did in the last elections to show their frustrations. One thing is clear about these local government elections: the sympathy vote is starting to get a back seat.

Mrs Diedericks, you will always be a heroine. You will never be forgotten by us. HENRY GOLIATH, GELVAN PARK, PORT ELIZABETH

OUTCRY ABOUT COW BEING CUT UP

THOSE people who believe that the miraculous appearance of several traffic cops at the scene of the dead cow (“Motorists in stew about cow cut up on freeway”, August 9) were there to prevent further accidents, probably also believe in the Easter bunny and tooth fairy. RICHARD, CHARLO, PORT ELIZABETH IT is difficult to comprehend the motive or mindset of the people who are up in arms because a cow which had been hit by a vehicle in the road was cut up and removed. Was anyone hurt, was the taxi damaged? It seems the officials had mercy and made sure that the cow was dead and then removed it. Would you prefer them to leave it on the side of the road to linger and rot? Waste not want not! Of course anyone who eats the meat could get sick if the cow had been grazing where there was human or canine excrement! The only issue is that the municipality must get livestock off the roads and out of urban areas! JW

NOW THAT THE ELECTIONS ARE OVER

NOW that elections are over, can the candidates have the posters removed from all the city’s lampposts? FS I REFER to numerous post-election jibes at the ANC in general and some of its members in particular. As a DA supporter of 40 years (from PFP days), I would like to appeal to all not to sink to ANC mud-slinging standards. Gloating is not the DA way. Be humble and support all who wish to move this metro on in a positive manner as per the DA manifesto. Yes, even those in opposition parties. Who knows, the light may be seen and perceptions (of the DA) changed. GARTH

HELLO Athol Trollip, goodbye Danny Jordaan, welcome Julius Malema. Would the DA stoop so low as to join the EFF in a coalition?

A MYBURGH, RICHMOND HILL, PORT ELIZABETH

THIS Athol Trollip is power hungry. How dare he walk into the city’s offices to give instructions to staff? He is not sworn in as the mayor or a councillor. He holds no position as yet. PE has made the wrong choice. Imagine how disturbed the staff must be. NEL

OH boy! Hendri has found a new party to insult (“Coming to EP Rugby’s rescue”, August 9). Perhaps he or she could advise the DA where it might find a magic wand that, at the flick of a wrist, will remove the effects of the ANC’s maladministration and corruption over the last 20-odd years. JAX

SHOULD HAVE CALLED FOR ZUMA’S EXIT

A DAY to remember for all those ministers who kept on protecting Jacob Zuma, the likes of Gwede Mantashe, Jessie Duarte, Cyril Ramaphosa, Des van Rooyen, Christian Martin, Danny Jordaan, Marius Fransman, Angie Motshekga, Tina Joemat-Pettersson and all the other crony ministers who did it to protect their own inefficiency in their respective portfolios. They should have shown they had more integrity and should have begged him to step down a long time ago, rather than apologise and make feeble excuses all the time. Let’s do what Madiba mandated us to do! (DA an opportunity for the people). M TOBIAS

AS a woman, I feel extremely proud of the four young “Khwezi” protesters! DEBBIE WHEN Jacob Zuma flies in on our ratepayers’ money jet with our ratepayers’ money bodyguards, is he then allowed to canvas for ANC votes? More

NEWLY PAINTED LINES BEING TARRED OVER

THE white lines on the M17 to Motherwell were painted about four weeks ago. Now I notice the same road is being tarred over again. What’s going on, is that not a waste of money? E T, KWAMAGXAKI, PORT ELIZABETH

UNHAPPY WITH TV SHOWS

JUST watched Top Chef SA again. Every second word uttered by some aspiring winners is beeped out. This is a prime time family show. How on earth can the producers of a cookery show permit so much foul language, if any at all? If these so-called chefs were eliminated due to the use of profanity, then there would only be two or three left to compete. SABC3, get your act together please. DJS

I WON’T watch Isidingo again. It’s now become very racist and it sickens me. EX-COP

THE WRONG WATSON?

HOW many other readers gave a sigh of relief on reading your headline, “Controversial Watson makes quiet exit from rugby” (August 10), only to give a sigh of despair when realising it was the wrong Watson? Or am I being a tad cheeky? DERRICK FELLOWS

THEN ALONG CAME A SAMBA DANCER

CLASSIC pic. Just when Usain Bolt thought he’d seen it all, along came a samba dancer (“That’s entertainment”, August 10). GT
