Oscar suicide watch reports ‘all nonsense’
OSCAR Pistorius’s uncle, Arnold, has denied that the athlete tried to take his own life, as it was also claimed that the Paralympian is on suicide watch.
“All the nonsense that is being said [about suicide], he is luckily unaware of,” Arnold said.
“There is absolutely no truth in the [suggestion] that he tried to commit suicide. He slipped.
“He grabbed at a drawer that was on wheels and it ran out ahead of him,” he said.
The Department of Correctional Services has also rejected allegations that Oscar was on suicide watch, as had been reported yesterday.
Last weekend, it was reported that Pistorius had sustained injuries to his wrists in his prison cell in Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre in Pretoria.
Official spokesman Manelisi Wolela said that medical personnel at the facility had attended to him and that he had been briefly sent to Kalafong hospital for treatment.
Last week, Wolela could not give details of the injuries sustained by Pistorius.
Wolela said only that the Paralypmian had sustained wrist injuries and had been treated in hospital.
Meanwhile, Pistorius has reportedly laid a complaint of attempted murder against nurses he allegedly believes are trying to kill him.
City Press yesterday reported that senior officials had confirmed that the complaint had been made three weeks ago.
Pistorius allegedly said that three prison nurses at the Kgosi Mampuru facility were trying to kill him with “toxic” medication, the report said.
In a statement, Wolela said: “As communicated previously‚ there is an internal investigation which will finalise its work soon‚ while the allegations made by Oscar were reported to the police who will handle them accordingly.”
