Welcome boost for Ben Sinuka
Students donate R2 000 with message of hope
PUPILS from Ben Sinuka Primary School in New Brighton were encouraged to look beyond their current circumstances and invest in a brighter future. This was said by second-year Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) public relations student Andisiwe Ntloko, who along with three of his peers, raised more than R2 000 for the school as part of a university assignment.
Speaking to the pupils and teachers during the handover earlier this month, Ntloko told the pupils not be discouraged by their circumstances but to press on.
“You can be anything you want to be in life, and it starts today.
“Believe in yourself and don’t listen to anyone who tells you otherwise,” Ntloko said.
He spoke of how difficult their journey was to receive funding from local businesses as many had already finalised their budgets.
“Like any other journey it had its ups and downs.
“But we saw each hurdle as a tool to make us stronger and wiser,” Ntloko said.
“We struggled a lot when it came to receiving sponsorship as many [local] companies finalise their budgets prior their financial year.
“So we came across many closed doors,” he said.
The four students, who call themselves Imani meaning “faith” in Swahili, received sponsorship from friends, family, as well as fellow students.
He also applauded the work being done by teachers at the school.
“We truly understand the great responsibility that society has put on you.
“You’re the mothers of all careers . . . you play a significant role in molding and fine-tuning the pupils’ purpose in life.
“Let us all work together as a community to ensure that we allow the pupils a space in their minds where love, peace, prosperity and hope exist,” Ntloko said.
Ben Sinuka Primary School principal Sizile Mateta expressed his gratitude and said the school had numerous break-ins so the money would go towards replacing some of the stolen goods.
