90 goals scored in women’s league

THERE was a goal fest in the Safa-NMB Women’s League Mayoral Cup competitio­n over the weekend with the ball landing in the net no fewer than 90 times.

African Chiefs led the onslaught, thrashing Eleven Attackers 15-0 on Saturday and Warriors 11-0 in the second round the following day.

NMMU Madibaz thumped Park United 11-0 in the preliminar­y round on Friday evening but were on the receiving end on Sunday, going down 4-0 to Highbury – who were playing their third match in as many days.

Highbury beat PE United 3-0 in the preliminar­y round on Friday evening and Kubs 5-1 in the first round the following.

Newly crowned Safa-NMB Women’s League champions Continenta­l Express beat Tomorrow Stars 2-0 on Saturday and Vuku Wanderers 5-0 the following day to advance to the semifinals. In their first-round fixture, Wanderers hammered Walmer Ladies 7-0.
