Kingswood too strong for DSG in derby matches

-

THE curtain was drawn at the weekend on what has been a busy year of water polo for both the Kingswood and DSG girls.

As has become customary over the last few years, the last full fixture of the season between the schools was much anticipated.

The U15A match was the first match of the morning, which eventually saw Kingswood emerge as 2-0 victors.

The Kingswood U14A/15B team took on a promising DSG U14A team with Kingswood winning 5-2.

Going into the penultimate game of the day, the DSG second side was favoured to win.

However, in a well-matched affair, the Kingswood side kept at it with some genuine grit and determination, forcing a 2-2 draw.

The first team match was always going to be a well-contested tussle.

This term, the two sides had already played each other twice with Kingswood winning the first match 8-4 and DSG the next 4-3.

Kingswood got onto the scoreboard first through a well executed 5m penalty by Amy Mills.

Not long thereafter, Erin Jarvis equalised and the game again looked set to be a tightly contested encounter.

However, after two well executed extra-man plays and a three-goal brace by Emma Fraser, Kingswood moved into a commanding 4-1 lead.

Going into the last quarter, there was still all to play for.

Kingswood, though, playing some controlled and committed water polo, seemed totally focused on extending their lead and Kelsey Purdon and Bianca de Klerk both scored for Kingswood to close out the game 6-1.
