Table Bay is entered for G2 Selangor Cup

-

TABLE BAY, so impressive when giving weight all round in the Grade 3 Drakenstein Vet Clinic Cape Classic, heads the 20 entries for the R400 000 Grade 2 Selangor Cup over 1 600m at Kenilworth on Saturday, November 19.

The original plan after win was that he would go straight for the Grade 1 Cape Guineas on December 17 with Markus Jooste’s racing manager, Derek Brugman, saying: “It’s the Guineas next and then we will play around with a few ideas – whether we go for the Derby or the Met.

At this point in time we will probably lean towards the side of caution but it’s not inconceivable that we will lean towards the Met.”

The Selangor is the traditional prep for the Cape Guineas although two of the last five winners of that classic had not run in the Selangor.

Variety Club and Act Of War won both races and Joey Ramsden who trained them and has charge of Table Bay, has won four of the last five runnings of this race.

Mike de Kock has three of the next four highest meritrated entries headed by Janoobi who won the Grade 3 Protea Stakes at Turffontein in April and showed good form when winning a handicap at Turffontein on Saturday. However, he is drawn quite wide at No 15.

Highly regarded Al Fahad and Bold Rex have both drawn well at Nos 8 and 7 respectively.

He also has entered Heavenly Blue who was touched off in the Grade 3 Graham Beck Stakes by Doosra at Turffontein on Saturday.

Edict Of Nantes, third in the Cape Classic, is an intended runner with Brett Crawford saying: “I thought he ran a great race –he had to check twice and yet he still got up to run third.”

Our Mate Art (fourth) will also be in the line-up with Candice Bass-Robinson saying: “He should have finished better but was constantly off the bridle. He missed the break, got a bump and Grant van Niekerk had to keep chasing him up.”

Tsogo Sun Gold Grade 1 Gold Medallion winner Always In Charge, who showed an impressive turn of foot to win on his reappearance this week, heads the 28 entered for the R2,5 million Lanzerac Ready To Run on the same card. He has landed a good draw and that will be important over this 1400m.

Justin Snaith trains the next two highest-rated, Sergeant Hardy who won the Cape Of Good Hope Nursery and the Grade 2 Durban Golden Horseshoe winner Zodiac Ruler who ran well on his return in a 1200m Pinnacle at Kenilworth last Saturday.
