Sun-soaked patio big advantage for Richmond Hill’s Tamz

- Brett Adkins

WITH summer moving into top gear, warmth worshippers and the sundowner society will be on the lookout for their place in the sun when it comes to holiday chill spots.

Tamz in Richmond Hill has one big advantage over its many competitors in the revitalised food and bar hub precinct of the Bay and that is a large, sun-soaked patio right in front, which is perfect for sitting back and enjoying your favourite lager, cider or glass of vino.

With plenty of foliage, verandahs and an old world charm, it almost has a hacienda feel to it, which is appropriate since publican Mark Barwick has hosted a hugely successful Mexican evening at the spot (and decked in a sombrero was even mistaken for a Mexican himself!) with plenty of Mexican style food – and tequila – going down a treat.

The Tamz interior is equally spacious with a variety of high tables and scattered regular seating (the bar itself has twin inside and outside counters) and there is also a more intimate back courtyard – so the options of where to chill are multiple.

With a full range of beers (including Castle draught on tap), coolers, shooters, spirits and selected wines, your refreshments needs are well catered, for while on the munchies front the focus is on steaks, burgers, pizzas and pasta.

Having sampled both juicy burgers and a delicious bolognaise pasta dish, I can personally vouch for that.

This is the kind of venue which, on a sunny day, allows you plenty of space to move around, enjoy the company of the regulars and bask in its friendly, cheerful ambience.

Tamz is at 9 Somerset Street, Richmond Hill. Contact them on 072-892-2718.
