Greeff smells the Scent of success

- Racing Editor

THE main event at Fairview tomorrow is wide open but the vote goes to the in-form Alan Greeff stable who saddles six-time winner Scent.

Race 5 is a Mr 86 Handicap over 1 800m and 11 runners are carded to face the starter. Scent, who will have Greg Cheyne aboard, won his last race when he defeated The Stones by 0,50 lengths. The son of Silvano will also carry 4,5kg less than last time which makes him a strong contender for the winner’s cheque.

Scent was cut into last time and just managed to get to the winning post first. If Cheyne has a clear path this time he should be hard to beat.

If they fail it is anybody’s race as Road To Indy, Master James, Notting Hill and Rosslyn Chapel are all capable of winning.

Road To Indy, who is trained by Tara Laing for Mayfair Speculators, won his last three starts. Ryan Munger was aboard on all three occasions and therefore knows how to get the best out of his mount.

Master James, owned by Fred Crabbia, is due for his fourth career win and punters can expect Richard Fourie to pull out all the stops this time.

Notting Hill is chasing a hat-trick of wins with Muzi Yeni in the saddle for the Dorrie Sham yard. The son of Horse Chestnut is back in form and cannot be underestimated.

Rosslyn Chapel will have JP van der Merwe up for trainer Gavin Smith. He won his last race going away when he defeated Stratocruiser by 0,75 lengths.

Killua Castle ran on well in his latest and could be coming back to form, while Rahvar and Grape Vine could upset the applecart.

Racing is off at 1215 with a Maiden Plate for all maidens over 1 200m. Glen Kotzen’s charge, Whitelightwarrior, can make a winning debut with Fourie in the saddle.
