Jaw-dropping Christmas surprise

- Helena Horton

A WOMAN gave her parents the ultimate Christmas surprise – travelling 7 400km to visit them in a restaurant in Dundee, where they live.

Steph Brand, 25, had been working in Qatar as a gym instructor for the 18 months, and told her parents she had to stay there over Christmas, to work.

However, she was secretly making plans with her sister Paula, 22, to surprise her parents at Christmas time.

Paula took her parents out for dinner at a restaurant, and they had no idea they would be joined by Steph.

Paula asked her parents to pose for a picture, and Steph came up behind them and said “cheese!”. Her parents reacted with shock – and joy. Steph said: “My parents initially thought they had been photobombed by a waitress, so they didn’t know it was me straight away.

Paula tricked her parents by showing them pictures of Steph working in the gym in Qatar, saying they were from that morning.

In fact, she was in Scotland, waiting for the right moment to surprise her parents.

Restaurant staff were in on the ruse, texting Paula and Steph to give them updates.

Steph arrived with all the presents her mother had shipped over to her, so she could open them all with the family.

Paula, a nurse, said: “I am just glad I managed to keep it a secret for so long. I’m the worst for letting things like that slip.

“This is what Christmas is all about,” she said. – The Telegraph
