TEST match fever hits Port Elizabeth this week with the early arrival of the South African and Sri Lankan cricket teams.

The first test starts on Monday, but the sides will fly into the city tomorrow and spend Christmas here.

The Proteas team will arrive on three different flights from Johannesburg (9.55am), Durban (11.10am) and Cape Town (11.40am). The Sri Lankans touch down at 12.20pm.

The squads will not train tomorrow, but fans will be able to catch them in action at training on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Christmas Day.

The test starts on Monday and runs through Friday.

EP Cricket commercial manager Leigh Deyzel said: “There will be loads of fun activities on the cards for the whole family, with great giveaways and competitions each day.

“Patrons can bring in their own picnic baskets and soft drinks (plastic bottles only), enjoy a day out next to the iconic St George’s pitch and watch their heroes in action.”

EP Cricket president Donovan May called for Bay support to strengthen chances of hosting future internationals.

“We urge all cricket fans to come and support the Proteas.

“After a very successful tour to Australia the Proteas are ranked fifth in the ICC test ranking and are a formidable team,” May said.

“St George’s Park is one of only five test grounds in South Africa, and to make sure we are allocated test matches regularly we need to fill the stadium and create an atmosphere and vibe that is like none other.

“We are looking forward to giving our fans a great experience both on and off the field.”

Tickets can be purchased at the St George’s ticket office or online at www.ticketpro.co.za
