Special evening for Warriors fan

-

I WANT to thank the Warriors team and management for making Friday evening March 17 a very special evening for a young friend of mine.

On that evening I attended a most enjoyable ODI at St George’s Park played between two highly competitive teams, the Warriors and the Knights.

It was a close game and went almost to the last ball, providing an exciting finish.

The management decided to give away three Warriors shirts, which were signed by the Warriors players.

Spectators were told to write a cricket story about themselves and they could win one of the shirts.

There was excitement in our group as Kevin Rheeder waited to see whether he had won one of the shirts.

When his name came up on the TV screen as being one of the winners, he let out a huge whoop of joy, stood up and shouted, “I won. Thank you!”

He then let out an ear-piecing whistle.

All the people in our section of the stand applauded his good fortune.

He collected the shirt and told the organisers that it would be placed between two other shirts which he had.

As he returned to his seat in the stand, in his excitement he stumbled and fell on the stairs.

Kevin had a serious car accident and has lost most of the use of his left hand. He also battles with his walking, his balance and his speech.

Worst of all, he was a very talented pianist and has to battle with a left hand which doesn’t respond.

Yet still he’s brave enough and determined enough to practise hard, and plays in the worship team at St James Church in Summerstrand.

I went to his home and took the enclosed photo to show how he appreciates these blessings.
