Winners Frans, Mfunzi set for Oceans

MELIKHAYA Frans and Ntombesint­u Mfunzi rounded off their preparatio­ns for the Two Oceans in Cape Town with excellent wins in the Correction­al Services 10km race on Saturday.

Frans, who set a new national record for 30km last month, will be competing in the Two Oceans 21km race, while Mfunzi has entered the 56km ultra marathon.

Both were easy winners on Saturday.

Frans was the overall winner in 29:39, beating Mariano Eesou by nearly half a minute.

In the women’s category, Mfunzi finished almost three minutes ahead of Ndileka Mvakwendlu.

In the junior men’s category, Tinarha made a clean sweep, with Sivuyile Selani leading the field home in 32:09. Results: Senior men: Melikhaya Frans (Ikamva) MORE than 900 participan­ts competed in the three 5km parkruns in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

After a break for last week’s Ironman, 765 participan­ts turned up for the Hobie Beach parkrun, with Phillip Timberlake leading the field home in 18:45.

Jana Zittlou was the first woman home, in 23:28.

In the Sardinia Bay parkrun Adam Daniels finished first in 24 minutes. Robyn Bird was the first woman home in 33:29.

Josh Henri was the first finisher in the Lady Slipper parkrun with a time of 22:58.

Wendy van der Merwe was the first woman home, in 30:15.

The runs are not races but all finishing times are recorded.
