Move festival away from Hobie Beach

-

MAYOR Trollip and Councillor Dean Biddulph, please put on your agenda for next year to move the Splash Festival to Kings Beach!

Why, for Pete's sake, have it on the Hobie Beach lawns, where this oncepristine site is being totally destroyed by thousands of feet? 90% of these feet are the feet of those who don’t buy a thing, merely being there because the festival is there.

This festival is just an extension of the Kings Beach flea market, and makes the Chatty informal settlement look like a five-star area.

The lawns have been destroyed to the point of no return (pictured above), and will take forever to come right.

The noise keeps the residents of the area awake at night, and annoyed during the day. Added to this, there are four hotels close by, where visitors and holiday makers get no peace during the four days.

This is also just a clearance outlet for Nike and Adidas fake goods, made in China. Every second stall sells sunglasses, watches and cell phone covers.

Surely Kings Beach is a better site? Plenty of parking and unlimited space for the various stalls.

Cars at Summerstrand park down all the avenues (pictured above), obstructing residents and pedestrians. Pavements are parked on, not allowing pedestrians to walk, let alone those in wheelchairs. These run the risk of being hit by the traffic as they have to avoid the parked cars by walking in the road.
