New Brighton smash rival 6-1 in crackerjac­k battle

NEW BRIGHTON demolished Eberspache­r 6-1, the biggest win in the Nelson Mandela Bay Masters FA League’s weekend fixtures.

Xolani Fololo and Mbulelo Funde scored two goals each to lead the onslaught. Bhara Ndongeni and Kwanele Dzadza were the other scorers.

In another one-sided match, PE All Stars beat Joe Slovo 4-1.

Monde Dikana and Mandla Mapela scored two goals each for Stars.

Mziyanda Ntlali scored the consolatio­n goal for Slovo.

A brace by Vuyani Mtati gave Ama-units a 2-0 win over Gqebera on Sunday, to keep them among the league’s frontrunne­rs.

Volkswagen’s hopes of closing in on the log leaders suffered a setback when they lost 2-0 to Veeplaas.

Sphiwe Duze and Zandisile Yoyo scored.

AFTER thrashing Walmer Stars 10-1 on Saturday, Golden Heroes picked up soft points in a walkover against Young Aces in a Wafa Premier League match played at the Walmer Community field on Sunday.

Airport Valley United scored a close 1-0 win over African Aces.

Ghetto Stars, who held Manchester United to a goalless draw on Saturday, lost 1-2 to Morning Stars.

In a six-goal thriller, Real Madrid and Eleven Experience shared the points.

THE battle for second place continued this weekend in the Safa-NMB SAB League, with five teams in contention.

Only four points separate Golden Aces in second place and Fairview Rovers in sixth pace.

Aces suffered a shock 3-0 defeat at the hands of Camper United, but remain a point ahead of PE Sundowns, who lost 2-1 to NMMU Madibaz.

Camper made the biggest leap from sixth to joint third, following their win.

Fairview Rovers blew their chances of joining Camper and Sundowns in third place when they lost 2-1 to Mabayibone Strikers.

Meanwhile, NMMU Madibaz scored their second win of the weekend when they beat Island City 2-0.

The champions-elect now have a nine point lead over Aces, with two matches remaining.

Despatch Pioneers moved away from the relegation zone, after beating Central Acemates 2-1 on Saturday.

On Sunday, Acemates secured their SAB League status with a 1-0 over Showvillag­e United Brothers.
